Chapter 25

Jessica Simpson - Heart of Innocence Posted by jenny Thursday, 30 June 2005

Nick walked over to Jessica. He sat down beside her and held her like he would a baby.

She rested her head on his shoulder and gently caressed her hair. Her sobbing subsided as she drifted off to sleep. Nick carefully lay down on the couch with Jessica asleep in his arms. Nick put the television on and watched, until he too drifted off to sleep.

Around 12 o’ clock in the afternoon there was a knock on the door. Nick slowly got up and laid Jessica, who was still sleeping, back on the couch. Before opening the door, he looked to see it was Joe. Nick then opened the door. “I have bad news” Joe said with a solemn look. “What?” Nick asked. “Your testimony won‘t hold. They say it would be bias, just as mine, my daughters, and my wife‘s would be” Joe told him. Nick stood there frozen, that is until he heard Jessica. She had collapsed on the floor and she began to sob once again. Nick quickly ran over to her side with Joe right behind him. Nick and Joe did not realize that Jessica had overheard the entire thing, until now. Nick knelt down beside Jessica and held her in his arms. As Nick did this, a feeling of security and completeness washed over her and she stopped crying. As Joe saw this, he realized what type of person Nick really was, and all of his concerns about Nick disappeared. He saw Nick had everything under control and decided he should leave. “I‘m going to go have a talk with my wife.” Joe told them just before walking out, leaving Nick to care for Jess, knowing good well that she was in good hands.

Joe now had to do the agonizing task of telling his wife. He knew that she would take it the hardest and might even blame him since he was a layer. Sometimes she even took it worse then Jess did. Tina even went as far as blaming it all on herself. She hated herself for letting this happen to her daughter in the first place. She hated herself for ever marring Art. She hated herself, because when Jessica was showing signs of abuse, she ignored them. She was blind to everything going on in her own home, and she hated herself for this. Joe could only hope that she didn’t take this too hard.
