Chapter 50
Nick and Jessica spent the next few week and a half living in the hotel.
Jessica was invited to go back to her old school to participate in the end of the year activates and to attend graduation. She was delighted to hear that she would be able to graduate with the senior class. Jessica and her family had flown back to Texas to spend the week there. She had decided to go to school on the last day to see all her friends once more. Everyone was so excited to see her, with some exceptions. There were some girls that hated her. They weren’t to happy to hear that she was dating Nick Lachey. She decided to take the bus home from the school, since she didn’t have a car yet. The girls on the bus weren’t friendly. Actually, they were down right mean. Jessica sat with her friend Melanie and chatted with her all the way home. The entire time, the girls were talking about her, very loudly so that she would hear. The guys on the other hand were talking about her and being flat out vulgar. That just disgusted her. She was near tears by the comments everyone was making, but she wasn‘t going to let them see her cry. There were a couple groups of people that for whatever reason just did not like her. She wished that all her friends would have rode the bus. At least she had Melanie. A few minutes after the bus had left the school, the song on the radio stopped and the DJ came on “Now, we have an exclusive track that is not yet released. The past few weeks everyone has been wondering who this Jessica Simpson is, and well, here‘s her first single, ‘Heart of Innocence‘.” Jessica gasped, she could hardly believe it. This was her song, her lyrics, her voice. How many people were listening to this? She just couldn’t believe it. It was the moment that she knew that she really had made it as a singer. “I‘m Jessica Simpson and I‘m going to remain a virgin till my wedding night” the sound of someone mocking her brought her out of her thoughts. Jessica just tried to ignore it until another girl chimed in “and I‘m going to give this precious gift to my husband” she said and the two girls burst out laughing as the song still played over the radio. Jessica continued to sit there, she had the urge to retort something back at them, but she kept reminding herself not to sink to their level. “Hey you know a guy like Nick is not going to sit around and wait for you. You got to give him what he wants, otherwise he‘ll leave you high and dry” she tried to bring Jess down. The bus then pulled to a stop. Melanie got up and off the bus telling Jess that she would be by her house in a couple of hours. Jessica sat silently, singing to herself, wanting to go home and cry into a pillow. The bus stopped again and this time it was Jessica’s stop. She was the only one getting off there today, and she was glad about that because it would mean she would walk home by herself and therefore would be able to cry. Suddenly when she stepped off the bus, she realized that would not be happening.
