Nick quickly grabbed the blanket that was folded at the foot of her bed and threw it on top of her.

He sat up and placed her to is left. Joe stood there silent for a moment before speaking. In a cold, harsh tone, he told them “I came to tell you Jessica, that you‘ll spend the next two months in and out of the recording studio before going on tour, and Melanie is downstairs”. Jessica sat motionless, staring at the floor with her father behind her and to her left. Just as quietly as he had came, Joe left. Nick turned to Jessica “I‘m sorry about that baby” he apologized. “You don‘t have to apologize about that baby, you didn‘t do anything wrong; he should have knocked.” she spoke. They both got up and Jessica put her shirt back on and Nick did the same. Jessica went downstairs, followed by Nick, to go see Melanie. She found Melanie in the kitchen talking to Tina and eating some fresh baked cookies. “Would you two like some cookies?” Tina offered and they each accepted. “Mamma, I would have loved to help you bake, you should have told me.” she told her. “Well, I heard from your father that the two of you were pretty busy upstairs.” Tina said as a shade of burgundy washed over her face. “Yes, your father told me about it, and he‘s not too happy.” Tina practically read Jessica’s mind. Jessica was too embarrassed, her eyes focused on the floor until she raised her eyes to see Nick standing in front of her with his hands in his pockets, unsure of what to say. Melanie broke the silence with laughter. “I don‘t want to be around when he gives you this lecture Jess” she laughed. “Don‘t worry guys, I‘ll have a word with him” Tina assured them. They sat there talking about the big night ahead of them. Ashlee arrived home shortly after and joined them. Around five, they all headed upstairs to get dressed. Melanie had brought all of her things over to Jess’s house so that she could get ready there. They all headed up the their rooms to get dressed. Melanie, Nick and Jess went into Jess’s room. “Baby, do you mind if I use your computer?” he asked her. “No, go ahead.” she told him. Nick got on the compute while Jess got her dress on. Melanie helped her into her baby blue halter style dress. She then had to get her gown on, which Melanie helped her with too. Jessica fixed her hair and put some makeup on. While Jessica did that, Melanie got dressed and Nick left the room to give her privacy and to get dressed himself.

Tina and Joe were getting ready in their room. “You didn‘t see what I saw!” Joe exclaimed in a rage. “I just want what’s best for Jess, and I don‘t think him all over her like that is a good thing” he shouted. “Calm down Joe, first of all, they still had clothes on and before you said that you trusted him with her, now all the sudden it is different. It‘s not like she lied to us Joe. She did tell us that she allowed him to go that far. She is growing up, and we need to give her that freedom to make her own decisions and we need to respect that, otherwise she‘ll resent us” Tina reasoned. Feeling defeated, Joe agreed “You have a point. I guess it‘s cause although I knew it was happening, seeing it was a whole other story.” he paused for a moment thinking about what he was going to do “I‘m still going to have a talk with him, man to man.” Joe said heading out of the bedroom and downstairs.
