The next morning Nick and Jessica were the last ones in the house to wake.

They both headed downstairs and joined her family for breakfast. Tina, with the help of her sister, had put a buffet together to accommodate the likings of their many guests. After breakfast everyone went to get dressed. Jess then went out shopping with her mother, sister, cousins, and aunts. The men stayed at the house. This gave Joe a chance to have a word with Nick. “I‘m sorry about the way I reacted the other night” Joe opened with. “You didn‘t over react, had it been my daughter, I would have done the same thing. I know that you‘re not happy about this age difference, but all age is is a number after all. I do understand that you are her father, but if it doesn‘t bother the two of us, I don‘t see why it should bother anyone else. I love Jessie, and I respect her and never would pressure her in any way. Just because we sleep in the same bed, doesn‘t mean anything. I‘m sorry that you had to see what you did when you walked in on us the other day, it was the wrong time and place for us to do that.” Nick’s words had rid Joe of all his uncertainties. Joe saw the man that Nick really was, just like he had that day at the hotel. He could also tell that Nick loved his daughter, truly and genuinely loved his daughter. “I just don‘t want her to get hurt” Joe confided. “She never will” he assured him. There was an awkward silence before Nick broke it “So, is everything okay between us?“ Nick asked, hoping for a good answer. “Yeah” Joe extended his hand.

Jessica and everyone else arrived home around six o’clock. Nick helped Jessica get all her bags in. “How much did you buy?” Nick said shocked as he looked at all her bags that were left in the car. “Let’s just say I maxed out all my credit cards. It‘s my birthday in a few days, can‘t I treat myself” she pouted playfully. “Of course you can, but I would rather treat you” Nick flirted. Nick helped Jessica get all her bags in and up to her room. A little while later, everyone went out to their backyard for a barbeque. After dinner some went inside and others went for a swim, while Nick and Jess went up to her room. They put the TV on and sat on the bed. Jessica hooked up her laptop and Nick sat watching the television. “Oh my gosh, I have to have that!” Jessica gasped. “What is it?” Nick asked curiously. “A beautiful white gold purity ring” she told him as she clicked on the item’s description. “That is beautiful” he agreed. “Never mind” she said disappointedly. “What?” he asked. “Let‘s just say that I have expensive taste.” she chuckled. “Let‘s see what else they have” she looked through the online catalog, but couldn’t find another one that she liked. “Oh well, I guess I know what‘ll do with my first pay check” she joked as she put her laptop down and sat closer to Nick as he watched the celebrity news. He was amazed that despite his celebrity status, the paparazzi had been unable to find him. He was said to be on vacation on a private island in the Caribbean. “Nick is reportedly vacationing with his girlfriend for her 17th birthday” the reporter said. “Baby, what are you going to be doing for your birthday? It‘s only three days away.” Nick questioned. “I‘m having a party here, I think” she explained. “I‘ll be right back, I‘m just gunna go ask my mom about it.” she told him as she got up and went to find her mother. Nick knew that this was the perfect opportunity. He reached for his wallet and pulled out he credit card. He then went over to Jessica’s laptop and went online to get her a gift. He placed an order for overnight delivery so that he would have it in time for her birthday. ‘Perfect’ he thought to himself ‘she’s going to love this’.
